Workshops

The Texas Public Charter Schools Conference offers a variety of workshops, covering topics for board members, business managers and instructional leaders.

Board Workshop

Board members can join TEA GTO-trained presenters as they navigate the priorities for next year and provide updates on board-required training. This year, we will reserve two hours on our first day of the conference for a “New Board Members Workshop.” On the second day of the conference, we will host an all-day, six-hour workshop for new and experienced board members. Sessions will address important topics charter board members about need to know, including legal updates, school finance, and academic accountability. Network with colleagues in similar roles and hear how you can make a difference in your districts.

Special Populations Workshop

Calling all special population leaders and directors – we have a workshop just for you! This year, we will host this half-day workshop dedicated to the hot topics and best practices for students in special populations, such as emergent bilingual students, students receiving special education services, and students receiving Section 504 and/or dyslexia services. Get compliance strategies to help your special populations staff manage the paperwork thoroughly. Hear how other schools have offered and managed their compensatory services. Learn how local education agencies (LEAs) and special populations teams work collaboratively to monitor student and district data, in order to ensure student access using the federal Methods of Administration (MOA) and the state’s Results Driven Accountability (RDA).

Finance Workshop

This year’s half-day Finance Workshop will provide charter school leaders with tools to mitigate against and plan for financial uncertainty. Tips and strategies will be shared for overcoming real estate cost barriers, construction cost escalations, and financing structures that can help your school succeed in its facility acquisitions and finance needs. The workshop will also cover legal and operational considerations in preparing for the end of ESSER funding while addressing the ongoing impact of the post-COVID environment on enrollment, attendance, state funding, and school budgets. Finally, a panel discussion will focus on improvements to internal controls over procurements and the use of funds, focusing on cost efficiencies for improved school finances. This half-day session offers a prime opportunity for networking with colleagues in similar roles to exchange ideas about how you can make effective changes in your districts.

Make your move.
